Hello Adventurers,
Last weekend I went to Yellow Green Market and I found a Jackfruit, before this day, I was thinking of getting one for some time but did not know where to buy it from. I have seen the vegan recipes of this fruit going around and I have been eager to try them. So here is my first attempt at a jackfruit.
I picked up this Jackfruit for $40
It took some strength to cut into this fruit, by the look of the first picture, I thought that the fruit was ready. When I purchased the fruit I was told to wait two weeks to open it and it would be ready to eat as a fruit, not for cooking purposes. However, it looked like it was going bad in some spots and I did not want to lose any portion of the fruit so I decided to open it a week early. I have never had one before and I believe that it was not as reap to eat and get the best enjoyment.
One aspect I did not read about was the glue-like texture that surrounds the buds. If you are planning on not having to scrub the glue off your hands then consider wearing gloves.
I got about 6 servings of 8 out of the jackfruit and gave 2 of those servings to my family. The rest I put in my freezer.
I added some BBQ sauce, BBQ seasoning, salt, and pepper to my boiled Jackfruit (in 2 cups of vegetable broth) then baked it for 15 minutes at 350 degrees and broil at 450 for 10 minutes.
Served with Vegan pepper jack cheese, avocado, onion, and tomato.
