“While you were overthinking, you missed everything worth feeling.”
―
Do you overthink every decision? I do, if I don’t I will overthink it after I have made the decision. Then when the decision turns out not as I played it in my head then I overthink it some more, what I should have done differently, how to improve for next time, and so on. To be honest, it is stressful, unfortunately, I can’t help it. It’s in my nature to overthink every little thing. I have only learned how to handle it, and today I will tell you how I do so.
- Create a list. To do, pros and cons, and possible outcomes.
- Sleep on it.
- Focus on each issue at a time, don’t think of the pros and cons, while thinking about the possible outcomes right after writing it. Be comfortable in one area before you go into the next thing. Make sure you have your pros and cons in order before you add thinking about the outcomes. One issue you don’t want is overthinking about overthinking.
- Prepare yourself for things not going as you imagined them.
So why am I not telling you to stop thinking too much, just be free-flowing? Because it is not for everyone, you can overthink all you want but at the end of the day, you don’t know how anything is going to play out. So if overthinking makes you feel better then do it, your mind is going to wander off to something anyway.
If you really want to not think about something then find something to occupy your mind. Read a book, sing a song, anything but the issue you don’t want to think about. Your mind can mostly only handle one topic at a time, so find something to fill your mind with.
